Creative branding meets shared stories
At LX Concept, we’ve been working together with UCLL for many years to develop promotional gifts and POS materials. A great example is the UCLL branding we created for a book locker.
For those who aren’t familiar with it: a book locker is a cabinet where anyone can take, return or exchange books for another title. A creative initiative that perfectly aligns with UCLL’s values and one we were happy to contribute to.
The interesting part of this project was the challenging process. Without any prior measurements or technical drawings of the organic shape of the book locker, we designed and produced a metal plate and a sticker, fully aligned with the UCLL branding. Thanks to our creative approach and attention to detail, we delivered a solution that is both functional and visually strong.
Proces
Step 1: Drawing the organic shape in Illustrator
As mentioned earlier, there were no technical drawings or measurements available of the book locker’s organic surface. So we got creative! Using photos, we carefully traced the shape in Illustrator. The process? Trial and error: digitally replicate the shape, print it, and then adjust it on-site until everything fit perfectly. An approach where precision and creativity went hand in hand!
Step 2: Design layout
Once the shape is defined, the graphic design is created using the recognizable UCLL branding. During this design phase, we also take practical aspects into account, such as the placement of screws and the contact surface with other parts of the book locker.
Just like in the previous step, we keep testing and adjusting everything with care. We print the design again and apply it to the book locker to check if both the layout and the cut-out are perfect. We repeat this process until we reach the optimal result – a perfectly fitting, professionally finished sticker that truly makes the book locker shine!
Step 3: Orajet® sticker and Dibond®
Once the layout and checks are completed, the files are prepared for production. The book locker consists of two parts: a top and a bottom section.
For the bottom section, we chose an Orajet sticker, as it is weather-resistant – a must for a book locker placed outdoors. For the top section, we opted for Dibond, which offers better resistance to weather conditions than Forex and provides higher print quality. Additionally, Dibond is more durable and better able to withstand wear and potential damage from use.
Together, these materials ensure a weather-resistant, high-quality finish that is not only functional but also enhances the visual appeal of the book locker. This way, it continues to look great even in challenging conditions!
What is Dibond®?
Dibond is a high-quality, layered composite made up of three components:
- The two outer layers are thin, solid aluminum sheets, providing a sleek and durable finish.
- The core is made of a plastic layer (polyethylene), which makes the whole structure lightweight yet strong.
