LX Team

Our new intern: Welcome Amber

Meet our new intern, Amber! This autumn, she’s joining the LX Concept team as a graphic design intern.

Amber studies Creative Media Management at UCLL in Leuven and has a passion for photography. She spent many years as a competitive swimmer and now swims with the KU Leuven Swimming Team, where she also helps with organisation and social media. She also works at Madmum Coffee Roasters. We asked her a few questions to get to know her better.

What specifically attracted you to LX Concept?

“LX Concept is a close-knit team, which means you really get to know everyone personally. That immediately appealed to me. I also find the wide variety of graphic design projects really interesting.

During my internship, I want to learn about the entire process: from creating a design in InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop to preparing a print-ready file and seeing the final physical result. My studies have already given me a solid foundation, and here I hope to develop that knowledge further and put it into practice.”

What defines your approach to design?

“I’m curious and always eager to learn new things. That’s why I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and seeing how others approach their work. I take what I learn from them and apply it to my own designs.”

Which development in design do you think says the most about the times we live in?

“For me, it’s the shift in packaging design. More and more, people are looking for ways to use less plastic and choose more sustainable materials. It reflects how much more conscious we are today about the impact of what we create.”

If you could introduce one rule that every designer had to follow, what would it be?

Which design trend do you secretly like, even though you wouldn’t necessarily use it in your own work?

“Y2K minimalism, although I wouldn’t bring back every element of that style. It’s playful and has a sense of energy and optimism. My own design style is usually quite different, but I think a little more lightness is welcome in these sometimes challenging times.”

If your life motto were a typeface, which one would it be and why?

“Pacifico! Its flowing, handwritten letters have a warm and playful feel. It perfectly matches my motto: Hakuna Matata. Try not to worry too much and enjoy the moment.”

Which songs or artists would you immediately add to our office playlist?

“A mix of Macklemore, Coldplay, Avicii, Pitbull and Twenty One Pilots.
That way, there’s something for every moment of the workday!”
