Welcome Lotte, our newest Graphic Designer

Lotte recently joined our team as a graphic designer 🎉. She grew up in Sint Katelijne Waver and has been living in Brussels for five years. Her journey started with a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape and Garden Architecture, but she was soon drawn to the world of visual storytelling. She then completed both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Audiovisual Arts, specialising in animation film.

What specifically attracted you to LX Concept, and what made you decide to take the step to join?

“In addition to the engaging projects, I’m also drawn to the dynamic of a close knit team. I thrive in an environment where involvement is high, communication is direct, and you work side by side on meaningful projects.“

If your design style were a dish, what would be on the plate?

“If I have carte blanche, I enjoy creating designs that aren’t for everyone (young, colourful and a little eerie), but always grounded in technical knowledge. If I had to compare it to food, I’d say I like experimenting with spices and less obvious ingredients, maybe a beetroot pasta with feta and mint (highly recommended if you like beetroot 😋). At the same time, I’m just as happy adapting to someone else’s taste and creating things that appeal to a broader audience.“

You can invite one designer from history for a workday at LX. Who would you invite, and what would you ask?

“I would love to invite Susan Kare, the pioneer who designed the visual language of the first Macintosh at Apple. I’m fascinated by how she gave the digital world a human face through iconic typography and minimalist symbols, such as the ‘Happy Mac’, the Command symbol, and typefaces like Chicago and Geneva. Her ability to capture complex functions in a single powerful image remains a great source of inspiration.”

“Because I recently designed a typeface myself for a short film, I’m very curious about her specific thought process. My own interest in typography has grown strongly in recent years, and I would love to ask how she maintains the balance between aesthetics and functionality when developing a completely new font.”

If you could permanently abolish one design rule that everyone treats as sacred, which would it be, and why is it time to let it go?

“I like to know and master the rules, because they provide a strong foundation. But I also believe that any design rule can be broken when there is a reason to do so, that’s what keeps things interesting.” “

What is the most unexpected place where you’ve ever found design inspiration?

If your design process were an IKEA instruction manual, how would you approach it?

“My IKEA instructions would be quite clearly structured, but there would be room to ‘tinker’ throughout the process, so the design feels personal to the space it’s made for. That tinkering can lead to something great, but sometimes an idea doesn’t work, and you need to recognise that and return to a strong foundation."

Which songs or artists would you immediately add to our office playlist?

“I would definitely add ‘Video Games’ by Lana Del Rey straight away, because it’s just that good. ‘Stan’ by Eminem as well, because it tells such a strong story. And I’d include ‘Prada’ by RAYE, because it brings a completely different vibe. Together, that makes a great mix for me.”
